Reflection of First Semester

I discovered many new photographers this semester and their work and style inspire me. Vivian Maier uses a frame within a frame in her work that makes it very unique. Another one of my favorites is Andreas Levers and his use of vibrant lights against the dark foggy background. I like Steve McCurry for his use of brighter contrasting colors. Stephen Shore uses monochromatic colors and a simple background to reflect his more minimalistic aesthetic, which I really like.

The composition techniques I learned as made a huge impact on my photos. I now know how to frame and set up my photos to create a certain mood, aesthetic, or to simply make the photo more captivating. The techniques I've used the most are probably leading lines and rule of thirds. Other techniques I've enjoyed playing around with are color and value contrast, monochromatic colors, and blurred/ frozen motion. I've learned how to use my camera settings to enhance and alter my photo. In this semester we focused on exposure, aperture, shutter speed, among other things.

The way I perceive the world has changed because I now apply the rules of composition and etc in every day. My relationship with photography has changed because I am now inspired to take more photos and to take photos that match my aesthetic. My goals for next semester would be to do more advanced editing and to edit on photoshop. I also plan on using my prework knowledge more when taking photos.

Project 5- Basic PS & Photoshop Controls

In this project we focused on camera controls, such as how the camera's aperture and shutter speed changes the photo. The photos we shot had to capture deep depth of field, shallow depth of field, blurred motion, and frozen motion. After shooting the photos, we learned how to do basic edits on photoshop and how to put both images (before and after edited) on the same page.
